Staying safe on Keep Company

Last updated 24 September 2026

Keep Company is for making friends. It is built so that everyone is a real, checked adult, and so that getting away from someone takes one tap.

What is in the app

Real accounts, adults only

Everyone signs in with a checked email address, Google or Apple, and must be 18 or over. One person, one account.

Every photo is checked

A new photo is seen by nobody but its owner until it has been checked automatically. Explicit photos close the account. Anything borderline is held back for a person to look at.

A message filter

Messages are checked automatically for harmful content, such as threats, slurs or sexual messages. When the filter catches one, the sender is warned, and the message reaches you with an exclamation mark beside it, so you know to take care, while our team reviews it.

Photos stay blurred until you both keep the chat

Photos can be sent before a chat is kept, but they are shown blurred until you have both chosen Keep, so a photo cannot show who someone is before you are both ready.

Your location stays yours

Pairing uses how far apart you are, so you talk to people near you. Others see only a distance in whole kilometres, never closer than 2 km, and never where you are.

Report in a couple of taps

Every profile and every chat has a Report option, with six reasons to choose from. A person on our team reads every report, usually within a day. The person you report is never told, and never told who did it.

Block anyone

Blocking ends the chat straight away. They are not told, and you will not be paired with them again. You can also block someone from your phone's contacts, by their email address or phone number, before you ever meet them on Keep Company.

Leave a kept chat

A kept chat is not a promise. Either of you can leave it at any time, without a reason. The other person is not told; the chat disappears from both chat lists, and you will not be paired again.

How the selfie check works

The selfie check shows that a profile belongs to a real person whose face is the same as in their own photos. It is optional, and it takes about thirty seconds.

  1. You agree to the check. It never starts without that.
  2. The app opens a short live camera check. Amazon Web Services' face liveness service, in Mumbai, confirms that a real person is in front of the camera, not a photo or a screen.
  3. That moment is compared with the photos on your profile. If the face is the same, your profile shows the verified mark.

No video or photo from the check is kept. We store only the result and which photo you were recognised in. If you later add a photo that is not you, the mark comes off automatically; take the check again to get it back.

The verified mark means the check was passed. It is not an identity check or a background check, and it does not tell you what someone is like.

What we cannot do

We do not run background, criminal record or identity document checks. The checks above lower the risk; they do not make anyone safe to meet. Trust builds slowly, and that is fine.

If you meet in person

Looking after yourself

If a chat closes, it just closes. It is not a verdict on you. Take breaks when the app stops feeling good. And if you are feeling low, talking to someone helps; it is common, and it is not a failure.

Our community guidelines say what is and is not allowed, and our child safety standards say how we protect children. For anything else, write to care@keepcompany.in and a person will reply.
